Diabetology is a branch of internal medicine that concerns the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and its complications as well as gestational diabetes.
The aim is to define and implement the care pathway for people with diabetes and/or metabolic disorders and to ensure, also in collaboration with general practitioners, a continuity of care for the prevention of acute and chronic complications. Our mission is to provide a qualified and up-to-date service that can guarantee a wide range of easily accessible services which meet the needs of all patients with diabetes.
Our doctors offer people with diabetes global assistance ranging from the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes to the secondary and tertiary prevention of complications.
In addition, they offer dietitian support to complement the correct nutrition therapy for diabetes.
It is thus a matter of providing total care in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diabetes and its complications by placing the patient centre-stage in order to satisfy his/her needs.
This service caters above all, to people that are overweight, have diabetes mellitus and dyslipidemia. The first step is a careful assessment of the patient’s medical history, including their eating and exercise habits, to obtain a precise evaluation of the anthropometric characteristics (weight, circumferences, calculation of lean body mass and body fat) and clinical characteristics for the prescription of a personalized diet therapy and, if needed, pharmacologic treatment.

Dietetics, sometimes referred to as dietology, is a discipline that deals with the processes related to nutrition and aims at preventing, diagnosing and treating health problems related to food, guaranteeing each patient with an effective nutritional intervention that is based on the most current scientific evidence. Furthermore, it seeks to establish the most suitable food ratios, taking into account the patients physiological and/or pathological conditions, in order to ensure the highest attainable standard of health.
This discipline is applied in all medical fields that require specific nutritional interventions such as: treating overweight and obesity, the metabolic syndrome, physiological states and chronic conditions that affect nutrition (pregnancy, gastroenterological, rheumatic, infectious and cancer diseases, etc.). The ultimate goal of this discipline is the creation of a diet and lifestyle adapted to the pathological condition and not of the patient, on the basis of well-defined medical standards (skinfold thickness measurement, bioelectrical impedance analysis, and body mass index assessment).
The dietitian participates in the prevention and therapy of diseases when a nutritional therapy is deemed necessary. The doctor provides care to people of all ages and develops the most suitable treatment for each patient based on a suitable diet and exercise.
Based on the patient’s medical history and eating habits, the dietician provides:
