This CT scan uses a sophisticated X-ray machine to create detailed radiological images of specific areas of the body. During the examination, that usually does not exceed 30 minutes, the patient must lie down on a table which then passes through the scanner.
The X-ray source rotates around the examined area and takes images that are then computer processed. Some cases require the use of contrast agents especially for tumour diagnoses but also for the detection of other diseases such as those of the abdominal organs, the musculoskeletal and nervous system. The machine used is a multislice CT that enables the thin-section imaging of an examined area. Today CT scans compared to the first generation of CT have the advantage of taking a higher number of images in a shorter time frame.
