The Nuclear magnetic resonance is based on the use of magnetic fields. It takes images both of the transverse plane of the body (as in TC scan), and of planes facing other angles. The patient lies down on the table and is then inserted inside the scanning machine. Sometimes a contrast agent may be used.
Usually the duration of the exam does not exceed 30 minutes.
Thanks to the magnetic fields and computer technologies, three-dimensional images are obtained of0 the examined body area. The MRI is particularly suitable for the examination of soft tissues: muscles, internal organs, blood vessels, ligaments, nervous system.
